Anti-bacterial coating could help in the fight against Swine Flu in UK schools as fears school closures could delay new school year
Anti bacterial coating, TouchClean could help in the fight against Swine Flu in UK schools by offering a new deep cleaning solution in a bid to wipe out the possible return of the virus.
The anti bacterial coating, which can be professionally applied in education establishments, has the technology and components to potentially kill the Swine Flu virus on surfaces once and for all – avoiding any return outbreaks of the killer virus.
Professionally applied by Dortrend International, based in Worcestershire, TouchClean is applied onto surfaces such as walls, doors and equipment. This ‘coats’ the surface areas touched by pupils and adults when visiting, working or learning within an education establishment.
The TouchClean coating is an anatase titanium dioxide based nano technology photocatalyst which destroys bacteria, spores, viruses, mould, odours and pollutants.
It contains Ti02 in nano powder form which has photocataytic properties. It is UV light which causes excitation of the Ti02 allowing water (vapour) to break down to form hydroxyl radicals and free oxygen radicals. These are a powerful combination and break down any organic material that lands on it into carbon dioxide and water.
By using a technology like TouchClean, education establishments could protect their surfaces from the return or start of the Swine Flu virus. Thus protecting pupils across the UK from catching or spreading the virus by touching handles or other surfaces.
Government bodies and local authorities are currently undertaking ‘deep cleans’ in education establishments hit by Swine Flu. However, the ‘deep cleaning’ could fail to protect from the return of the influenza strain - which often returns on surfaces touched by hundreds of school pupils in establishments, even if touched by just one pupil who is still carrying the virus.
A pre-deep clean is undertaken before surfaces are sprayed with TouchClean, as part of the application service by Dortrend International.
Philip Dean, Managing Director of Dortrend International, said: “With the constant worry and development of Swine Flu during this year, we are working constantly on educating establishments how to protect their facilities from contracting or spreading any bacteria or virus, especially Swine Flu at this current time.
“More and more establishments are investing in TouchClean anti bacterial coating, after finding a ‘deep clean’ is not doing enough to kill bacteria.
“It is an extremely worrying time for the UK and the World as we continue to fight the spread of Swine Flu in our schools, hospitals and workplace.”
Once coated by TouchClean, surfaces are protected from the swine flu virus for one year and from bacteria for ten years.
TouchClean anti-bacterial coating is also used in hospitals and health centres across the UK to help fight MRSA, SARS, c difficile and e.coli and on public transport and within the hospitality and catering sectors.
