Restaurant gets a warm hand from Dortrend.

Cold door handles are unpleasant to touch in very cold weather and some people suffer more than others due to poor circulation. A leading restaurant chain wanted to give a warm welcome to its customers and door furniture specialist Dortrend International of Stourport-upon-Severn came up with the answer.

What was needed was a material with high strength and durability and low thermal conductivity. Wood might seem an obvious solution but for a pull handle six feet long it would have been too thick for comfortable handing and require careful maintenance. The answer was a tube of aluminium coated with a special resin that gives a wood grain effect and reduces thermal conductivity. The wood grain gives the handle a natural aesthetic look and the aluminium provides the physical strength required. The coating renders the surface maintenance free. The wood grain effect is available in a range of finishes to match the client’s style.

The pull handle can be despatched immediately as it can be trimmed to size on site. The stock tube is 2300mm long, which is enough for most doors, and this gives the customer an instant handle instead of having to wait for a bespoke handle to be made. The stock wood finish is light oak and large stocks of this popular wood finish are always available. Others finishes are available to order. The handles can also be supplied in silver anodised powder coating, in any RAL colour, or anodised in gold or bronze, or nylon coated for a warm to the touch coloured alternative. A huge range of pillar entrance door handles is offered in aluminium, stainless steel and brass as well as cranked or straight handles in round bar diameters of 16mm, 19mm, 22mm, 25mm and 33mm. They are available in any length to suit any application.
