The Freeman Hospital is part of the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and offers a wide range of advanced, patient-focused healthcare to patients from Newcastle upon Tyne and the North East of England.

It has a well-deserved reputation for the quality of its facilities, with a leading edge clean, modern, and friendly environment.

All Newcastle Hospitals take great care to reduce the risk of infection spreading and make sure patients are provided with a clean, safe environment in which to be treated.

Dortrend International was approached by architectural ironmongers Lloyd Worrall, in conjunction with the Freeman Hospital, to employ their nano-technology coating in one of the hospital wards in order to assist in infection control and reduce the risk of common hospital bacteria being transmitted from the surfaces of the ironmongery.

Dortrend’s door furniture was subsequently supplied and assessed by the Trust.

Once we developed an understanding of TouchClean we did not hesitate to introduce Dortrend to the Trust and they were suitably impressed”.
TouchClean® is a nanotechnology coating used to protect people against, bacteria and mould organisms. Examples include MRSA, C. Difficille, E. Coli, SARS, listeria, salmonella, and bacterial spores.

It avoids the need for chemical cleaning and the by-products are harmless. Once applied it is presents no hazards to people or animals and goes on protecting for many years.

The operation is currently being monitored to reduce the amount of potentially dangerous bacteria harbouring on the Ironmongery surfaces.

Lloyd Worrall is assisting the Trust with Dortrend to use their TouchClean® technology in additional wards at the Freeman Hospital.
